PENANG MALAYS1. I was in Penang recently, having been invited to give a talk by the Penang Mubarak (Council of Former Elected Representatives). On the way to Tanjung Bungah I was surprised to see the same wooden zinc-roofed shacks, which were there 60 years ago. The difference is that they are stuck between the slender beautiful high-rise flats favoured by Penang. Their ramshackle appearance seems out of place amidst the modern dwellings of the Penangites. 2.Why are the Penang Malays still living in these hovels? Yes, Kuala Lumpur has Malay slumps. But these are mostly built by new urban migrants. The Government has succeeded to rehouse most of the squatters in modern high-rise buildings so that, passing along the main roads, one does not see the slums anymore.3.But the Penang Malays live in the same old shacks that housed them long ago. And they are an eyesore

MEKAYU PULAU PINANG CUTI  KOMEN BERTULIS OLEH CHEDET  . 1.Saya berada di Pulau Pinang baru-baru ini, telah dijemput untukmemberi ceramah oleh Mubarak Pulau Pinang (Majlis PerwakilanRakyat Bekas). Dalam perjalanan ke Tanjung Bungah, saya terkejut melihat sama kayu zink pondok berbumbung, yang berada di sana60 tahun yang lalu. Perbezaan adalah bahawa merekaterperangkap antara rumah pangsa langsing bertingkat tinggi cantikdigemari oleh Pulau Pinang. Penampilan hampir roboh merekaseolah-olah di tempat di tengah-tengah tempat kediaman moden diPulau Pinang.

2. Mengapa orang Melayu Pulau Pinang masih tinggal di-hovels?Ya, Kuala Lumpur mempunyai mendapan Melayu. Tetapi inikebanyakannya dibina oleh pendatang baru bandar. Kerajaan telah berjaya pindah ke rumah yg paling setinggan di bangunanbertingkat tinggi moden supaya, lulus sepanjang jalan utama, seseorang itu tidak melihat setinggan lagi.

3. Tetapi orang Melayu Pulau Pinang tinggal di pondok lama yang sama yang menempatkan mereka lama dahulu. Dan mereka adalah sesuatu yg buruk.
