Perak: Why my blog image is a black screen..

1. Somebody ask me today, why did I change the image on my blog from various beautiful scenes and the of usual rendition Malaysian flag to just a black colour. It is obvious that he does not know that I am in mourning.

2. I am a Perak born son. I was born at the old Ipoh Hospital. My maternal grandfather was born in Tupai, Taiping. I grew up and travelled all over. Until today, I still feel that I want to go back to the cow shed where I grew up in Chemor or for that matter anywhere in Perak. To me no other place is better to call home other than Perak. Along the way, I was taught to love the state and respect the Perak flag. It has three colours. A black and white with yellow being sandwich in between.

3. To me the black and white symbolize life. For people to live in harmony there should not be any grey areas. Everything must be done in a transparent manner. The yellow colour reflects the Royalty that balance between the light and the darkness. It balances between the right and wrong.

4. Unfortunately, today my heart says that everything is wrong in my beloved state. As such, I decided not to show the white and yellow colour anymore. I will not show it, until governance is given back to the people.

5. Right now, the action by BN is simply irresponsible. The last few hours it seems that they have decided to apply for a court injunction. That is OK as that is within their right to do so. What I am angry about is the irresponsible act of Zambry and BN. It has influence the State Secretary, the Deputy Speaker and the Perak CPO. I might do not have evidence to substantiate what I say but being an ex government servant I understand the concept of the general orders very clearly.

6. I am not convinced under what rules of the GO orders that the State Secretary (SC) is following. Who is giving the instruction? The SC does not have such powers. In a similar breath, I would say the same with the Deputy speaker. As for the Perak CPO, I understand the need to beef up security but to make a statement that the assembly sitting is illegal is too much.

7. In my view, the Perak CPO has marred the image of the Police force. The police suppose to be neutral and act and show their neutrality. It this case, he has failed to do so. I believe there are enough laws within the Police Force to charge the CPO for bringing down the image of the Force. I called upon the IGP to protect the image of the Police Force by disciplining its men.

8. As for where the assembly must sit in order to declare that a session is in place, I am not sure whether it must be done in the State Assembly or it can be done on the five-foot way outside the gates of the assembly. I would like to quote what Roger Tan said, which I pickup from a comment put by a reader in another blog. It say’s that “An 18th century American lawyer, Patrick Henry, once wrote, ‘The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government…”

9. What it means here is that, the government being controlled by powerful people and this people needs to control to ensure that they do not abuse their position and power. The controlling instrument is the constitution so that ordinary people is not being abused by those in power.

10. In the case of Perak, every single bits of law has been broken. The BN has muscle its way trough to enter the government. It is hiding behind the yellow cloth. It has says that if the assembly is in session, it will enter the hall. So why now lock it? It got help from biased and unprofessional government servants. They did it because they know they are in wrong. I worry for Perak. It seems the powers at be continue to disregard the law and my crystal ball shows that there is a strong possibility that Emergency Laws will be evoked soon.

11. My blog will only show the black portion of the flag for now until power is given back to the people. To zambry and Nizar, sit down at a common table. Have coffee and return the power back to the people. Do not keep something that you do not own. For the government servants, please behave professionally.

  1. My heart bleeds for my country…

  2. Dr,

As a Perakian, I hold the Sultan solely responsible for this. His son was there preaching to us about the importance of keeping the rule of law yet they aid the breakers who trample upon all rules. Why are they dividing the people? What are they gaining? Or simply 3 of the Sultan’s children doing business with Najib’s brothers makes it easy for him to lose his conscience and betray his soul and all his subjects? why not solve this issue by sending the protaganists to the people? Subhannalah! You know I always hear the du’aa “Allahuma la-tusalit alaynaa man la yarhamuka fina” (O Allah, don’t impose upon us a leadership that doesn’t have mercy on us bcoz of you). We are there. May Allah sw intervene and salvage what’s good and fair. Amin

  3. I believe not only you, Dr Raffick, the whole of Malaysia is mourning for the death of democracy in our beloved country.

Any sober person can see that the so-called (and should be) impartial neutral government agencies are being lop-sided and taking sides.

Democracy in Malaysia has become ” Democrazy! ”

May The Almighty God saves Malaysia.

  4. The rakyat must fight back!

And how can we respond? Let our voices be heard!

No more silent surfing. Post your comments on every blog you read, voice out your disgust. These blogs are monitored by the evil UMNO/BN cybertroopers. Show these goons that we the rakyat are not rolling over and closing our eyes anymore!

LET THEM KNOW WE WON’T STAND FOR THEIR DISGUSTING NONSENSE!

Hack the UMNO/BN websites! Destroy them!

Contact your MP or ADUN (SMS, call, email, letter, postcard, red paint on the front door - anything!) and let them know what you think of UMNO/BN’s shenanigans. They are arrogant because they think they are not accountable. Well now is the time to hold them to account!

Register your displeasure every chance you get! Get the message out!! Spread the word!!

  5. Anwar while as the DPM did a Najib in the 1994 Sabah state elections …, with intent had the Istana gates sealed preventing Pairin to take the oath of office while he conjured the defection of Assemblymen that eventually made PBS crumbled , today as what goes around…. Najib is doing a Anwar in Perak.. and alas.. this despicable modus operandi(M.O.)goes on.
As the saying goes , laws are meant to be broken but if its abused by the very people entrusted to keep the law than where , we as citizens stand

  6. The prob has been that the public servants seem to have forgotten who their real bosses are. the public, the rakyat! Not the political party that’s presently in power.

50years and more they have yet to .. bah! enough has been said on that..

It’s true what my papa says, we live in interesting times :)

Someone said (I read it somewhere) that if they throw the full might of the obviously biased institutions at it all, and they can suppress the state elections, what’s to stop them declaring emergency etc and repressing the national elections (General elections). They know they will get stomped on..

    power at all costs?

  7. I feel BN and PR are equally at fault for this Perak circus.

The circus started with PR carrying its long promised crossover. BN retaliated with their own crossovers.

Both do so without a care about the will of the people. Only when they got the short end of the crossover war that the rakyat’s will suddenly become an issue. haha. typical gutter politics.

In tangent to the crossover war, the Perak DUN Speaker is playing hanky panky. Accepting resignation of ADUNs who obviously did not intend to resign. All the legal gymnastic aside, a fair Speaker would not have accepted the resignation. Obviously his acceptance of the ‘resignations’ is politically motivated. Just another move of the political tic for tac.

The Speaker continued his game by banning BN friendly ADUNs to affect the balance in DUN.

Hypocritically, in concurrent to trimming the pro BN majority in the DUN, they call for justice and due process, they declared a no confidence vote is the only legit way to remove Nizar.

PR doesn’t want a proper no confidence vote because they know they will lose so they start kicking out pro BN ADUNs to give them the edge. What kinda rubbish is this?

The other actor is the Sultan. I feel legal gymnastic aside, he did what he should have done. HRH’s role is to appoint the ADUN with majority confidence as MB and he should reject any ADUN who does not have majority confidence. full stop.

I feel the way forward is to have a proper no confidence vote against Nizar or a confidence vote for Zambry in DUN. Proper meaning the Speaker doesn’t accept fake resignation and doesn’t ban pro BN ADUNs. BN will win. The takeover becomes legit. Finally Perak can function again as a State.

The next course of action is to give a medium for the constituents of the crossover ADUN to exert their will. It can simply start with a letter to the ADUN stating that he/she no longer represent the will of his/her constituents or a petition calling for the removal of the ADUN due to no longer representing the constituents.

If there is majority or large numbers against the ADUN, then there is quantitative evidence to exert pressure on the ADUN to resign and thus have a by election.

If that doesn’t work, a class action suit is to be launched calling for injunction on the ADUN of his duties. Upon winning the injunction, the ADUN can no longer attend DUN, PR can call for a no confidence vote against Zambry.

If the court does not rule in favour of the rakyat even when there is valid quantitative evidence that the ADUN no longer represent his/her people, then truly the rakyat have the rights to hit the streets. But till then Perak must be allowed to function as a State.

ALTHOUGH if the result is that the majority feel the crossover ADUN still represent the constituents, then PR MUST concede defeat.

Another bolder course of action is to introduce legislature for recall election giving the rakyat ultimate power… the power to remove elected representative.

As you can see the suggestions I put forward sets a fixed process that constituents can use to exert their wills in cases of crossovers. We need nothing short of a fixed process if both BN and PR insist on playing crossover politics.

The current situation is a joke and a joke cannot be the precedent. We can’t have dissolution every time crossover occurred neither can we have childish political tic for tac.

This is my view and I with it.

  8. The biggest joke is the notice of closure of the State Secretariat building. There was no signatory or even the name of the person issuing the order. It is almost as if the person doing it knows it is illegal and stupid and therefore do not have the ball$ to put his name on it.

  9. Dear Kok
As a government servant, you must fully understand that the head is ultimately responsible. I think if PR comes back to power, he will be in a deep shit..

  10. hi dr - i share your sentiment and i am frm ipoh.

i am so devastated upon hearing of the way the take over was done becos i have come to respect my Sultan and his son Raja Dr Nazrin.

They have always been eloquent in the principle of democracy and have preach about how the Sultan should listen to “their” subject and do the right thing.

What happened on that day crashes my Utopian world view - my hope - and brought me crashing back to reality.

I realized now, speeches are just that - period. Having what it takes to apply is another thing.

I am still in mourning and I dont think my heart will ever heal.

Will we ever - ever have an Abe or a Churchill amongst us?

Was born in Perak, never really grew up there but whenever I go back for visits or jalan jalan, I always feel I am “home”.

Sad day, though BN is holding the mic and everyone have to hear them, the lone voice of a murmur that all is not fair is beginning to be heard and as the lone voice is joined by other lone voices, it is now a chorus of deafening proportions.

  12. mr rocko

damn good suggestions…if anyone were to take it up.

otherwise, we’re still stuck in the real-world events unfolding before us where the BN is throwing everything AND the kitchen sink at the PR to stay in power. Meanwhile, the rulebook is in tatters…

you can’t spar gentleman-like with a street fighter. While you show restraint and respect for rules, he’ll rip your guts out at the first chance he gets.

don’t people realise that Najib has declared war on the rakyat? He has already been handed the PMship FOC, and instead of rebuilding the nation, he is bent on destroying opposition in every form, in every way possible, with every dirty trick in the book and even some that the worst despot nations have not even used!

In all these shenanigans, it’s obvious to anyone that BN will face a complete loss in the next elections! Najib can never face another election again!

I can only surmise that he doesn’t plan to!

  13. Hi Dr Rafick

Like you I was born in Taiping, to be precise in Kamunting. Lovely old town with its charming laid back way of life and hawkers’ pastime to bet on when the rain will start.

I read some of the blogs and I am glad there are rational thinking Malaysians like you, Zorro, Haris, Pet, Art, etc who look past the color of skin to decry wrong when committed irregardless of by who and irregardless of affiliations.

Hey Tupai has “sinister” connotations! Taiping people should know ;-)

    Taiping Boy

  14. BN and PR supporters judge right and wrong not by the actions but based on who did it.

“My enemy is guilty of wrong and injustice… I am merely guilty of doing necessary evil”

    Dear Eyes Wide Open.

Your pro PR spin is entertaining.

But when you talk about people throwing away decency and rules to gain their goals. PR is simply as guilty as BN albeit with less state apparatus to wield.

Though when entrusted with some state apparatus, PR has no problem abusing it just like BN. The adventures of the Perak DUN Speaker is a clear example. Any way you slice it with legal gymnastic, his recent actions are obviously politically motivated and is intended to continue the tic for tac in favour of PR.

  15. First blog I read after wakeup from sleep today!

  16. As I said before the speaker should allow all ADUN to attend the assembly sitting and past a vote.

If all of us here really believe in fairness and justice ALL the ADUN of Perak should be allow to attend the assembly.Don’t be a sore hypocrites!

I’m agreeable to mr rocko suggestion.

The Sultan at least wanted to see all 31 ADUN that support BN, but the speaker DO NOT WANT TO face the 31 ADUNs in the asembly, why?why?why? This speaker need to be change to JBL or YAMAHA brand. The sound is a bit pecah la.
